Coordination Without Prior Agreement
نویسنده
چکیده
Assuming that there is an a priori agreement between processes on the names of shared memory locations, as done in almost all the publications on shared memory algorithms, is tantamount to assuming that agreement has already been solved at the lower-level. From a theoretical point of view, it is intriguing to gure out how coordination can be achieved without relying on such lower-level agreement. In order to beer understand the new model, we have designed new algorithms without relying on such a priori lowerlevel agreement, and proved space lower bounds and impossibility results for several important problems, such as mutual exclusion, consensus, election and renaming. Using these results, we identify fundamental dierences between the standard model where there is a lower-level agreement about the shared register’s names and the strictly weaker model where there is no such agreement.

Would global patent protection be too weak without international coordination? Would it be too strong with the international coordination mandated by the TRIPS agreement (Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights)? Introduction: Balance in individual with intellectual disability has a great importance due to the failure to perform motor tasks. The purpose of the present study was to compare postural control and balance function in two groups of individual with intellectually disabled with and without developmental coordination disorder. Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional and causal-comparat...
متن کاملProgram Equilibrium in the Prisoner’s Dilemma via Löb’s Theorem
Applications of game theory often neglect that real-world agents normally have some amount of out-of-band information about each other. We consider the limiting case of a one-shot Prisoner’s Dilemma between algorithms with readaccess to one anothers’ source code. Previous work has shown that cooperation is possible at a Nash equilibrium in this setting, but existing constructions require intera...

BACKGROUND An inexpensive method of generating continuous data on hind limb function in dogs with spinal cord injury is needed to facilitate multicentre clinical trials. This study aimed to define normal fore limb, hind limb coordination in dogs walking on a treadmill and then to determine whether reliable data could be generated on the frequency of hind limb stepping and the frequency of coord...
